Campus Master Plan
On May 27, 2010, the Board of Trustees approved a new Campus Master Plan that serves as the framework for the Sage Ridge School building program.
Planning Principles
- Views - Take advantage of the spectacular views of the Reno and Sparks skyline and the Sierra Nevada, including nearby Mt. Rose which is over 10,000 feet in elevation.
- Thomas Creek – Integrate Thomas Creek, located on the western edge of the school property, into the Sage Ridge School campus.
- Quadrangles – Utilize the quadrangle as the basic spatial building block around which new campus structures are located.
- Gateways – Define major campus access points with clearly articulated gateways.
- Circulation – Create a circulation system on campus that allows efficient and effective movement between spaces while providing protection from the elements, an opportunity for interaction and enjoyment of campus views.
- Security – Provide a secure environment at each individual Sage Ridge School facility while creating an open campus in order to take advantage of off-campus amenities such as Thomas Creek and the spectacular views.
- Community Interface – Orient the campus spaces and facilities so the greater Reno-Tahoe community can utilize them for appropriate community events.
- Expansion Scenarios – Provide a flexible plan that will allow future changes in phasing, as well as physical expansion to accommodate additional facilities and spaces.
- Architectural Style – Establish a consistent and indigenous architectural style that evokes a sense of quality, permanence and reverence for the learning experience.
- Sustainability – Utilize various practices, such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards for buildings and Low Impact Development water quality standards for site design, to minimize operating costs for the school and provide a model of responsible stewardship for students and the surrounding community.
- Regulatory Constraints – Recognize existing regulations and conditions of approval associated with the previous campus master plan, but do not consider these a constraint in the consideration of new campus plan concepts and alternatives.
- New Buildings – Place the highest priority on the construction of new buildings and spaces (i.e., increase capacity) versus renovation of existing buildings and spaces.
- Technology – Incorporate new learning technologies into the design of the campus and new buildings.
