Class Meetings

Students at each grade level meet approximately once per month to conduct a Class Meeting. Faculty monitor and supervise the meeting. The meetings are described as follows:

1. Students decide most of the topics, instead of discussing teacher-generated topics.

2. The purpose of the meeting is to identify problems and design solutions as a group.

3. The total class is involved, instead of a selective few who are chosen to learn certain skills, such as conflict management.

4. There is a specified format that creates the kind of order that allows more freedom for everyone involved.

5. It is a process that teaches children the valuable life skills they need to become happy, contributing members of their community and eventually society.
