All students at Sage Ridge School prepare to become outstanding citizens through community service. Sage Ridge students volunteer hundreds of hours each year assisting the underserved, disabled, homeless, elderly, and younger children in the Reno community. Service is viewed as an opportunity not only to help others but for personal growth as well. The School expects that students will learn to recognize the worth of others by responding to their needs and that such awareness will foster continued commitment to volunteerism. Upper school students in grades 10 through 12 participate in community service a minimum of 15 hours per year to fulfill their graduation requirements. Some community service projects that Sage Ridge has worked with include the Angel Kiss Foundation. The 8th grade connects with Bernice Mathews and below is a description of the Sage Ridge all-school community service relationship within the Reno area.

The Washoe County School District provides homeless children the opportunity to achieve the same high quality academic standards by eliminating barriers to their education. Homeless Liaisons with the Children in Transition program work closely with an advocate at every school in the district to identify over 1,300 children yearly.  Children living in motels, homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters, Kids Cottage, doubled up, or an unaccompanied youth can receive assistance to remove barriers to school enrollment including, transportation to school of origin, nutrition and health services and summer school. Adequate basis needs of food, shelter and clothing for homeless children are a concern for Washoe County School District.  The CIT program collaborates with our community through generous donations to provide the children with backpacks, school supplies, personal care items, shoes, clothing, and food. Even enrichment activities, such as field trips, sports, and musical instruments can be requested through the Children in Transition program to help normalize  the academic life of the homeless child.
