Upper School Student Studying

Upper School Academics

The Upper School program at Sage Ridge School focuses on preparation for university life and beyond. To help facilitate this idea, college counseling begins in the freshman year for Sage Ridge Upper School students.

The rigorous academic program at Sage Ridge School is rooted in the core academic disciplines of English, History, Mathematics, Science, Language, and the Arts. Students are provided with an extensive complement of honors and Advanced Placement courses.

In addition, Sage Ridge School offers a unique two week mini course period between the first and second semester following December break which allows students to experience and encounter different fields of study. Selections vary each year. Students are also given a chance to experience new venues of learning during the Outdoor Education week, the first week in September. Please visit the Outdoor Education section of the Student Life portion of the website.

Senior Essay
The seniors at Sage Ridge School are tested at the end of their senior year with a senior essay. The senior essay is designed as an in-depth study of a limited topic within a subject. It is designed to encourage students to pursue a particular interest or deepen an existing knowledge base using scholarly principles of investigation. Each student is assigned an essay committee who approves the topic, critiques the essay, and guides the student through an oral defense.

Senior Internship
The Senior Internship is designed to help prepare students for the transition from high school to the world of higher education. The students come face to face with the realities of reporting to a supervisor, efficiently managing their time, and being productive in the work force while experiencing the increase in freedom and responsibility of life outside of Sage Ridge School during their month long senior internship.
