We are pleased to announce that the Board of Trustees has hired Bruce Shoup to serve as the Interim Head of Sage Ridge School beginning July 31, 2017 for the 2017-18 school year.  Bruce is currently serving as the interim head of school at Park City Day School.  He will be employed there until mid-July, but he has graciously offered to consult with us on a part-time basis until he begins on July 31.  Our hope is that we can introduce him to all of you by video conference at the June 12 faculty meeting, which we understand is the last meeting of the 2016- 2017 school year.

Bruce’s career in education began over 40 years ago and includes not only teaching but countless administrative and leadership roles in independent schools, including Head of School, Lower School Head, and Upper School Head.  In addition to his long term positions, Bruce has also taken on interim roles at several schools in transition. Having taught and led at the Berwick Academy in Maine from 1984-1990, Bruce also taught and led internationally and then primarily spent time on the West Coast from 1990 until present.  Notably, he served as Headmaster of The Evergreen School in Seattle, WA from 1990-2000 and as Head of Archway School in Berkley/Oakland, CA from 2012-15.  Bruce’s decades of experience – in both interim and permanent headships – will help ensure the continued forward momentum of our school and a smooth leadership transition.  A copy of Bruce’s very impressive resume is attached.

Bruce comes highly recommended to us by NWAIS and by Park City Day School.  We believe Bruce will be an inclusive and visible leader. He has superb management experience and a passion to help schools reach their full potential. His experience helping schools successfully meet challenges through vision, innovation, and collaboration will be a tremendous asset to Sage Ridge.  Bruce looks forward to working with our strong faculty and our strong administrative team to lead our school forward.  Those who worked with Bruce at Park City Day School describe him as energetic and highly personable.  Bruce has hobbies that include kayaking, fly-fishing, and hiking, and we feel he is a natural fit for our school and our community.

With this important work now complete, we will swiftly move forward with the search for our permanent Head of School.  We will be hiring a search firm, and our plan is to bring the strongest candidates to campus as finalists to meet faculty & staff and parent groups, hopefully as early as this fall.

Again, we thank you all for your support.
