- Sage Ridge Spotlight
Eleven Sage Ridge Students were featured in the Reno Tahoe International Art (RTIA) Show at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center on Sept. 12-15, 2024. One Scorpion artist—sophomore Ana Treadway ‘27—was a 2024 Regional Reno Tahoe Artists (RTA) Best of Show Awards Finalist for the student art category.
The RTA Best of Show Awards is an annual awards program and gala “created to recognize individual achievement and the overall ascendency of Reno Tahoe into a national destination for arts and culture.”
With Sage Ridge Upper School Art Teacher Nicole Ashton and Grades 3-8 Art Teacher Krystal Buccambuso at the helm of Sage Ridge’s visual arts curriculum, Scorpions learn how to create, express, and communicate meaning through visual arts.
Sage Ridge students learn about artistic perception, creative expression, historical and cultural context, and aesthetic valuing—as well as the connections, relationships and application of art. The abilities to create, read, research, and write are crucial to the development of students, and creative talents are nurtured for all Sage Ridge students in grades 3-12.
Earlier this year, 14 Sage Ridge Upper School students won 21 Scholastic Art Awards—including a Visionary Award, two Gold Key Awards, three Silver Key Awards, 15 Honorable Mentions and a nomination for the prestigious American Visions Award. Gold Key-winning pieces from Owen Heaphy ‘27 and Ana Treadway ‘27 were displayed at the University of Nevada, Reno’s Sheppard Contemporary Gallery and the Nevada Museum of Art.
