Carissimi Magistrae/i, Discipulae/i, Parentes, Amicique
Welcome to the 13th year for Nevada State Junior Classical League convention! We started small but have gone on to help develop and promote an appreciation for classical antiquity across the state and within our community. And now we are preparing to host the up and coming JCL convention VIRTUALLY April 9-10!
What is a ‘convention’? Well, from its Latin roots it means a ‘coming together of like-minded people for a set purpose’ and our purpose is to celebrate something that unifies all of us, from the middle school to the high school, public and private, northern and southern Nevada – namely, the ancient Mediterranean societies of Greece and Rome.
In a year unlike any other, the Nevada Junior Classical League is striving with our greatest effort to provide students with an opportunity for fellowship and friendly competition. Starting now, nurture your mind and study for the academic tests. Strive for creativity and prepare art that you will enter in our Classical Art categories (all submissions sent via emailed photographs of project). Strive to prepare your buzzer finger and prepare for Certamen questions that will provide you with endless glory and satisfaction!
So why attend convention? Everyone will have a different answer and motivation for this. To meet people! To own certamen! To take lots of tests! To be challenged! To learn more! To earn ribbons and trophies! Whatever brings you to convention, we are glad! The more you do at JCL conventions, the more you will benefit from the experience. And your chance to earn spoils that would make any ancient proud is also increased.
Ex animo (Sincerely),
Sage Ridge JCL Sponsor
