Congratulations, Sage Ridge swimmers. After a year like no other, Sage Ridge School just completed a successful high school swimming season like no other: 7 weeks, 5 meets, a chilly spring for outdoor swimming in Reno, and the Northern Region Swimming Trials & Finals Meet contested in Carson City on May 21 and 22, 2021. Following the abrupt cancellation of all youth sports in the United States in early 2020, it was a welcome relief and joy to see sports come back safely in 2021.

Without a doubt, sports provide essential ingredients for positive adolescent development, from physical and mental health to social interaction, camaraderie, psychological growth, time management skills, and so much more. Their importance cannot be overstated and it was a pleasure to be part of the rich growth and personal improvement characteristic of the Sage Ridge Swim Team in 2021. Team Captains Flynn Lundeen, Vidhi Pandit, and Austin Schler helped lead the way to an exciting Regional Championship over the weekend, where the Scorpions had 10 top 8 performances, 7 of them personal bests, 6 of them top 2 finishes, and a stellar event win by Alex Dixon in the 50 yard Freestyle (23.78).

To top it all off, the Scorpion boys took gold in the 200 Freestyle Relay (Alex Dixon, Alex Power, Spencer Abts, and Flynn Lundeen), out-touching Truckee High School by 1 tenth of a second. To the team, Spencer Abts, Addy Davis, Alex Dixon, Flynn Lundeen, Vidhi Pandit, Alex Power, Austin Schler, and Irisa Zhou, it was a lot of fun coaching and getting to know all of you. To the Class of 2021, I wish you all the best in your next chapter; you are ready to take on the world.
