At Sage Ridge School, we are very proud of our students for being able to balance their academics with their passions. The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association, the non-profit governing body of high school sports in the Silver State, is proud to present a special award each year to the team with the highest grade point average in each sport per classification.
Congratulations to the Boys Golf team for being named NIAA (governing body for Nevada high school sports) 2021-2022 Spring Season Academic Team Champions, a significant honor and achievement for these scholar-athletes. With a combined GPA of 3.80, they came in 1st in the 1A/2A Division, and 2nd out of the 12 boys golf teams.
The team grade point average is determined by taking individual unweighted GPAs of the varsity team members from last semester and then computing an overall average.
The NIAA also recognizes those varsity student-athletes who achieved a 4.0 GPA the previous semester by naming them to the All-State Academic Team.
The NIAA considers this state academic championship award to certainly be equal to the athletic championship award. As the NIAA’s coaches and administrators always stress, the participants are students first, then athletes.
"I am thrilled to see our scholar-athletes proving that they can continue to be top-notch students in the classroom, while simultaneously competing and winning at elite levels", says Athletic Director, Kyle Sadanaga.
Congratulations to the Boys Golf team for demonstrating Sage Ridge’s focus on excellence in all we do — in the classroom and on the golf course!
