Clubs are in Full Swing!
Marnie Pilling

Our 2021-2022 Clubs have formed and are starting to meet and plan out their year! Here is a list of the clubs the students have organized and a little bit about each of them. We can't wait to see what they do this year!

Club Description
Last Straw Club Our club is focused on environmental activism through education, fundraising, and hands on activism. In the past we have fundraised for the Coral Alliance with candy grams and bake sales, and also helped initiate planting trees during the Garden Party. This year we are hoping to work with some local organizations and participate in volunteering opportunities such as picking up trash at Tahoe, raise awareness and promote activism at our school about environmental issues, and fundraise to donate to a local environmental organization.
Fashion Club Our plan is to inform and educate the people about the evolution of fashion throughout past few centuries, and even design some our own! We have a sponsor, Ms. B and she and Ms. Gage would love to do it.
Creative Empowerment Designed for students ages 12 – 18 that helps to boost confidence and empower pre-teens and teens through creativity, conversations and a combination of staff and student support. Projects will include creative group work, individual creative projects, music and sacred circle. Project Unity will direct a variety of engaging, fun, and interactive activities to support the social and emotional well being of teens. A big goal of Project Unity is as well to have fun and create a desire within our members to look forward to our time together. While it's proven that meditation positively affects mental wellness, it's overall a good stepping stone in the direction of becoming in touch with our minds and emotions. We also picture days where we do a visual art project, follow guided meditations, play field games, and somewhere in the time we have, form a natural discussion relating to our current mental wellness. We think that the idea of a teen-led conversation where, as a whole, we all are taking part in being vulnerable is really unique.
Dungeons and Dragons This club's goal is to learn about how to play, and play Dungeons and Dragons. Members will learn how to build characters, and how the game works. The hope is to emphasize teamwork, creativity, and to have fun.
Thespian Club This club will be based around preparing competition pieces for Nevada Thespian Festival happening in February. Pieces can range from monologues, scenes, solo songs, and duets. No prior acting or singing experience is required because it is mainly about improving and having fun with singing or acting. Ms. Cobb will give feedback to anyone in the club in order to be ready for regionals.
Chess Club This club is for playing chess and having fun!
Competitive Math Work together on math topics like combinatorics, number theory, probability, geometry etc. to prepare for high school math competitions. We will work on problems that are similar to those on the AMC10/12, AIME etc.
FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) The FBLA high school experience should be tailored to individual members to ensure that they are gaining the knowledge, skills, experiences, and behaviors they need to be successful after high school. By the end of their FBLA experience, it is the goal that every member will:

Develop an understanding of what it means to lead
Understand fundamental business principles and how business impacts all sectors
Demonstrate the ability to use technical skills to solve problems
Create a post-graduation career plan.
Letters for Rose Letters for Rose aims to reduce loneliness among elders during the COVID-19 pandemic by creating and distributing personalized letters, art, and donations for local nursing homes. Founded and staffed exclusively by high school student volunteers, with chapters in over 45 states, Letters for Rose creates community service, team-building, and leadership opportunities for its volunteers.
JCL (Junior Classical League) Club The JCL club will serve as a weekly meeting time for State Officers to work on event planning and other JCL tasks, both school and state. Non-officers are welcome to join, but club time will be designated to planning and related tasks rather than Certamen or activities that may have been done in JCL clubs in the past. Officers are encouraged to join, but do not have to.
Full Belly Brasil Full Belly Brasil clubs help us accomplish our mission to feed families in need and to combat climate change. -The club can plan fundraisers, both in and out of school. We can host bake sales or an event with a percentage of ticket earnings going to Full Belly. -Raise the social media awareness for Full Belly through sharing posts through stories, asking people to follow the account to gain attention and raise awareness for the cause. -Run food drives. Not just for families in Brazil, but if we want in our town/city (or even to help with the dixie fires). -Decrease food waste through awareness. Food waste is a major contributor to climate change because it produces methane, a greenhouse gas 84 times stronger than carbon dioxide when measured on a 20-year scale. If food waste were a country, it would be the third largest greenhouse gas emitter behind China and the United States. -Environmental Initiatives: Planting trees! "For every tree planted around the world donors donate an extra pound of organic food to families"
Sports Club Enjoy friendly competition in various sports! Spikeball, dodgeball, and basketball are only some of the possibilities.
Community Service The community service club is a place where students can help bring back to the world. We will focus on creating posters, writing letters to the elderly, creating dog treats and toys, offering to help any teachers or businesses in need, and give back to the school. We will be able to knock out hours for community service during the club and will schedule times outside of school to help our community.
Cooking Club

The cooking club will be making different foods from different places around the world. During the club, we will be researching some easy recipes and trying them out. There will be google forms for you to fill out that will help us choose some fun food choices. In this club, we will decorate desserts. You can relax and eat some delightful food. There are some days where you go home to make a recipe to then bring it in for our next club time. We are here to hear others' ideas and set up a fun and delicious club time.
