Cory Clemetson Retires From Coaching Basketball At Sage Ridge
Sage Ridge School

Head Boys Basketball Coach Cory Clemetson announced today that he is retiring from coaching at Sage Ridge School. Clemetson has coached the Sage Ridge High School Varsity Boys Basketball team for the past two seasons and had coached at the middle school for the previous four years. Sage Ridge Boys Basketball is coming off its most successful basketball season ever — with a 16-13 overall record in 2022-2023, the most single season wins of any Sage Ridge Basketball team in school history. It also was named 1A West regular season champion at 8-0 in league play for the second year in a row and went on to win its first-ever 1A West Region Championship with a 62-56 win over Pyramid Lake. Clemetson said that he is leaving his head coaching position to focus on family obligations, potential new life pursuits and other factors.

“I have had the pleasure of coaching so many great teams and student-athletes over the past six years and at all levels at Sage Ridge but this season has certainly been the most rewarding. After losing the regional title game the previous season, our boys put in the work all year, and especially in the off-season, and in the end they came together at absolutely the right time overcoming adversity and ultimately proving why they were deserving regional champions.” Clemetson further stated, “Thanks to all the players, coaching staff, families, friends, fans and my family for their incredible support. It has been an amazing journey coaching these incredible student-athletes over the past two years and I will have fond memories of this experience that will last me and my family a lifetime.”

Clemetson retires from Sage Ridge Basketball as its most successful and accomplished coach in the history of the program. In his two years as head coach, Clemetson and his coaching staff were able to elevate the boys basketball program to new heights. He finishes his coaching career at Sage Ridge never losing a 1A West regular season league game going 16-0 in two seasons and capturing two consecutive regular season titles. Clemetson also will leave Sage Ridge with an overall record of 19-1 against 1A West opponents with a lone 45-43 loss to Pyramid Lake in the 2022 regional final. During Clemetson’s historic 2022-2023 season, Sage Ridge defeated 5A Carson High School, 66-51, on February 2, 2023. This marked the first time in school history that any Sage Ridge team in any sport had defeated a 5A school. His team during the season also nearly upset Galena (76-74 loss) and McQueen. Clemetson’s teams also during his tenure defeated local 3A Division schools Wooster, Hug, North Valleys, and Sparks — all for the first time in school history and in any team sport. Notably, all of these 3A/5A wins were away from home. Clemetson and his staff also guided Sage Ridge to back-to-back Nevada State Basketball quarterfinal appearances in both 2022 and 2023. This marked the first time any Sage Ridge Basketball team had ever appeared in a Nevada State tournament basketball playoff game. Clemetson’s teams were also strong off the court in their studies being named runner up Nevada 1A Academic State Champion in 2022 and winning the 2023 crown for Nevada 1A Academic State Champion this season.

Clemetson ended his two-year run as 1A West Region Champion and with his key players receiving 2023 All- League honors including League MVP, two named to First Team, one named to Second Team and two Honorable Mentions. Clemetson in his final season coaching at Sage Ridge was unanimously voted by fellow coaches and named 2023 1A West Coach of the Year.

Clemetson finally stated, “ I will cherish these moments coaching these amazing student-athletes and no matter where I am now or in the future, I will always be a fan of Scorpion Basketball.”
