"Flourishing is not an end state but a response to the unpredictable opportunities and obstacles that happen to face us."

- David Weinberger, Everyday Chaos

I hope we are all able to flourish in the coming weeks as we embrace distance learning. We certainly have had obstacles in the past few weeks and our leadership team has been working hard to set us up for success. We are asking all family members to read our new distance learning guide [PDF version] to get us off to a great start next Tuesday.

At the same time, we recognize that this will be a complicated time for families and the transition to distance learning will be a challenge - hopefully one with unpredicted opportunities. Parents will need to think differently about how to support your children; how to create structures and routines that allow your children to be successful; and how to monitor and support your children’s learning. Some students will thrive right away with distance learning, while others may initially struggle. It is the responsibility of all of us to help each other flourish.

With help from other schools going through similar transitions, we adapted these guidelines to help Sage Ridge parents think about what you can do to help your children find success in our new distance learning environment. We also know that we will all be flexing to respond to the circumstances we are facing. If there are unique challenges, particular needs, or concerns that arise, please be in touch with us.

With our campus closed, I have been thinking a lot about how we are connected as a community. Remember that we are all in this together. We are a community that will continue to learn and grow together. I beseech all of us to be kind to each other, and honor our Pillars in all interactions. Students, please be a support leader at home and help your family, reach out to friends, and connect with your teachers. Our strength comes from our small community where we can really connect no matter what the circumstances are.

I look forward to seeing a wall of friendly faces in our first virtual community meeting next Tuesday at 9:00 PDT - everyone in our community is welcome to join us as we start with a flourish!

PS - Our thoughts go out to everyone in our extended community knowing that we are truly global from alums to grandparents. Please stay safe and healthy.
