The Hollywood Gala 2020 was held in the nick of time on March 7, 2020 at the Reno Renaissance Downtown Hotel. The ballroom was humming with activity and dressed out in the most Hollywood glam décor.
Tobin Bechtel, the Head of School, was the host of the evening to an audience of 200 plus revelers. This year’s event site was the same as last year’s but it is more than evident we are outgrowing this beautiful downtown space with our attendance and the 120 auction items.
“We hoped to have a glamorous fun filled evening that everyone could participate in whether they attended or not” stated Debbi Lehr, the new Director of Development. “We hoped that the online auction would make it possible for everyone in the SRS community to participate even if they were not in attendance.” The auction itself earned over $70,000 that evening. With the awesome team of Eric Eads, Master of Ceremonies, and Cameron Crain, Auctioneer, kept the audience engaged throughout the live auction.
Nhi Phan, a junior Sage Ridge Scholar, gave a very moving speech regarding what Sage Ridge School and being a Sage Ridge Scholar means to her, she moved not only herself but many others to tears during her speech. Our amazing community then called to action on donating to the Opportunity Fund for Sage Ridge Scholars went about and beyond the $25,000 goal with two large $10,000 matches we raised $48,420.00 in a matter of minutes. Way to show that SCORPION PRIDE!
Highlights of the evening as usual were during the Live Auction portion when everyone get quite competitive over the items. This year was no different with bidding wars erupting over the:
- Barolo, Italy trips for 6 nights in an 18th Century Tower, that was graciously offered to two lucky bidders
- Chef’s Table Party at Roundabout Grill
- UNR Basketball seats which was parlayed from 2 seats to 4!
- Buffalo Trace Antique Bourbon Collection
- And finally the Tapas with Tobin party that went to 3 lucky bidders
Thank you to everyone involved in planning, donating, attending this annual fundraising event and making it one for the history books! We look forward to seeing you all again next year, so save the date March 6, 2021.
