Head's Note: January 2023
Dr. Ginger Hovenic, Interim Head of School

Dear Sage Ridge Community:

We have had the chance to share this communication with our internal community, and want to share these highlights with our wider community.

As we look forward to the next few months, Sage Ridge is prepared for innovation, strong academics, increased opportunities for student leadership, strengthening our pillars, and reaching out as we continue to support our Sage Ridge community. With our renewed and focused pursuit of excellence, the Sage Ridge community can expect that Sage Ridge will deliver on the promise of our mission. First and foremost, every decision is made with two priorities in mind: the well-being of our students and their access to an excellent academic education to prepare them for the future.

We hope you will join us as Sage Ridge will open its doors to the greater Reno community for a Community Event Open House on February 4 at 10:00am to 1:00pm. This is a great opportunity to bring in your friends and families that would be interested in seeing all the options and opportunities that Sage Ridge has to offer in theater, athletics, Latin, Spanish, Art, strong academics, and new robotics challenges. We look forward to sharing what Sage Ridge has to offer with you, the community and prospective families.

Let your friends know that enrollment is currently open and we are offering merit scholarships and financial aid to qualified students. If you know of someone that would like to enroll a Grade 3 student with a focus on academics and college prep, please have them apply as soon as possible as spots are quickly filling up. They can fill out an inquiry here.

Sage Ridge will continue to see changes, improvements, and progress as we grow from Great to Greater with our leadership and team-building activities creating a student culture of community and caring. Below is a short list of some initiatives and traditions coming your way:

  • Design Teams for the Innovation Lab and the Performing Arts Building are in development as the Sage Ridge and greater Reno community are beginning to contribute to the plans and partnerships.
  • As a college preparatory school, SAT preparation classes for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are being developed to offer during the school year and summer.
  • A Night in Paris Sage Ridge Gala has been moved to May 12, 2023 at The Club at ArrowCreek which will provide a spectacular view of Reno for the evening, a chance to celebrate seniors, and the enjoyment of music and dancing with other Sage Ridge parents.
  • The Lower School will put on its very first theater production! Directed by Upper School students, lower school students will have the opportunity to experience the entirety of the theater production process. This is a great farm team advantage for our award-winning Upper School theater program.
  • Sage Ridge is in the planning process to create two additional classrooms in the Lower School to accommodate an increase in enrollment.
  • Our new Podcast room is ready for our Media Arts students and for all our students to learn strategies and best practices of interviewing, critical thinking, and producing quality short segment reviews.
  • Recent graduates Lilli De Jonghe ‘22, Samantha Kenyherz ‘22, and Lily Johnson ‘21 returned to Crossbow this past Thursday to speak with Upper School students. They shared their first-year experiences in college and their thoughts on how to prepare for the future.

Our teachers and staff are working hard to continue the tradition of high-quality education for all our students. Before every step forward, we ask ourselves if we are acting within the school mission and if we are focused on the well-being of our students and their access to the strongest academic opportunities in Northern Nevada. Thank you for your commitment to our school, and as always we are open to your comments and suggestions because we know that by working together we can make a difference.
