“I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.” – Edward Everett Hale
I have been ruminating on this quote since I came across it several months ago. On one level it reminds all of us the power we have as individuals. We can almost always do something. We can make a difference in so many ways and small actions can make a big impact. But we must take the action rather than ruminate about possibly doing something. And we need to have the courage to believe in ourselves.
On another level, Hale highlights the importance of teams. If each one of us is willing to take action and we cooperate in making it happen we become stronger and the something can become bigger. Underpinning all of this is our ability to care, to connect, to collaborate, and to contribute. As we help each other, our power of one grows and grows. I believe we can be proud that at Sage Ridge we support our students to understand their power of one and their responsibility to take action.
