Happy New Year! Our Scorpions have had a busy start to the new semester! Here's a peek into what they've been learning in the classroom. Get an in-depth look at our academics at the Community Event on February 4. Register at https://www.sageridge.org/admissions/admissions-events

Lower School

Our 1:1 laptop program applies to all grade levels--even in the Lower School. Our young scholars are encouraged to learn computer literacy skills and utilize the digital resources provided to them.

Middle School

Mike Joyer visited the Grade 7 science students to talk about energy technology and lithium battery recycling. Bert Nelson also came to visit to speak to the Grade 7 Scorpions about nuclear fusion and fission, and John Murphy shared his knowledge of geothermal energy. We would like to give a huge thank you to our guest speakers who contributed their expertise to our energy technology speaker series!

Grade 8 students are beginning the American author research project this month in their English class, guided by Mrs. Kuehn. This is a semester-long event that brings together all their writing, reading, and time management skills built at SRS over the middle school years. It has been a part of the curriculum since 2011. Currently, students are browsing authors to make sure they know enough to choose one that they will enjoy as the focus of their efforts. Parents of Grade 8 students should feel welcome to chat about the author list and offer suggestions based on what they think their child might enjoy. Next step will be solidifying their author choice the week of February 6 and diving into reading the work of the chosen author shortly thereafter. Best of luck to the scholars in Grade 8!

Upper School

AP Psychology students have been learning about memory. They had fun putting their studies to practice by competing in memory challenges against each other!

It was a pleasure to welcome local artist Erik Burke back to Sage Ridge School for a visit with our Scorpions! Erik created the gorgeous mural on the side of Crossbow. He returned to campus to talk about his art and help our own budding artists with a spray paint project! Find more of his work on his website at https://www.eriktburke.com/

Alex Zhang '23 has been working with Mr. Landers to polish his piano skills!

Samantha Kenyherz '22, Lilli De Jonghe '22, and Lilly Johnson '21 visited Sage Ridge as part of our Young Grads Return event! The SRS alumni spoke to upper school students about their university experiences and answered questions about managing courses, choosing majors, balancing a demanding schedule, and how Sage Ridge prepared them for college. It was a delight to have these graduated Scorpions back on campus for the day!
