State Convention

Sage Ridge is virtually hosting the annual NVJCL convention on April 9 and 10. The state convention is the big JCL event of the year (other than nationals), and it invites students from across Nevada to come together for a day and a half of games, competitions, academics, classes and fun. This year, we are keeping many of the normal state events like Certamen (Latin/Classics Jeopardy type game), academic testing, arts contests, service projects, sight-reading, colloquia (classics-themed hour-long classes taught by guest speakers) and That's Entertainment! (talent-show type performance event).

We are also adding new events like a virtual at-home scavenger hunt, Kahoot games (with themes like Harry Potter, Roman History and Mythology in the Modern Day) and a virtual game night. These fun events provide opportunities for JCLers to learn new things, put their knowledge to the test and meet others from across the state.

Ben Browder ('24) is the head community service officer this year for the state, and he wanted to do service projects that really spoke to the current times. This year, students in Reno are making cards and other messages of positivity, thanks and hope for the Renown Health medical staff, and students in Las Vegas will be writing to overseas troops.
