Rhys Ferrito ‘28 Places 6th Overall in Pasadena Triathlon, The First Top 10 Placement For A Teenager In Its 26-Year History
Sage Ridge School

Congratulations to Sage Ridge School's Rhys Ferrito ‘28 for starting his 2024 triathlon season with a huge achievement: 6th place overall in the Pasadena Triathlon and the first top 10 placement for a teenager in the race’s 26-year history.

The Pasadena Triathlon, held at the Rose Bowl, is the largest early-season triathlon event on the West Coast. On Saturday, March 9, 774 athletes competed in the race, and Scorpion Ferrito showed his characteristic determination and athleticism to clinch a spot in the coveted top ten.

13-year-old Ferrito finished ahead of many California college athletes from UCLA, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly and UC Davis in the “reverse triathlon.” The typical triathlon format is swim, bike and run, but the Pasadena Triathlon order is run, bike, swim.

The best moment of the race was at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Pool. Ferrito entered the pool in 8th place, with two Caltech guys several meters ahead of him. While in the pool, Ferrito passed the two college athletes in the last 20 yards to finish 6th, propelling himself to the finish line.

In August, the Sage Ridge eighth-grader placed first in the U.S. and second overall at the 2023 U.S. Youth Triathlon Championship in Milwaukee for the Boys “13 and Under” non-draft category, and last spring, Ferrito won the 2023 California State Championship for “14 & Under” age group

With Sage Ridge, Ferrito placed second at the fall 2023 Tah-Neva Middle School Cross Country Championship, and his Middle School Track & Field season begins this month.

We cannot wait to see where Ferrito’s running, swimming and biking takes him this spring and summer! Congratulations, Scorpion!
