On Saturday, January 27, Scorpions Jasper Chang '31, Foster Gray '32, Gabriel Flores '31, and Isaac Xu '31 competed against the top 24 FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Robotics teams in Northern Nevada at the Northern Nevada State LEGO Championship. And these fourth- and fifth-grade Scorpions on Team Sanic the Hot Dog walked away from the University of Nevada, Reno, with multiple awards and an invitation to compete at the June 2024 international WPI Open Invitational in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Team Sanic the Hot Dog won second place in the Champion's Award for overall performance, first place in the Innovation Project competition, and third place in the robot game. The Sage Ridge team was one of only 11 teams to qualify for the State Championship at the FLL Challenge Qualifier for Washoe County. During the qualifiers, Team Sanic the Hot Dog won a second-place Innovation Project Award. Team Sage Circuits, a group of 5th- and 6th-grade students, also qualified to compete at State, winning third place in the robot game at the FLL Challenge Qualifier, but did not qualify for the international WPI Open Invitational.
FIRST LEGO League “introduces STEM to children through fun, exciting hands-on learning. Participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences through a guided, global robotics program, helping today’s students and educators build a better future together.”
Congratulations to Team Sanic the Hot Dog on an incredible performance at State!
