Sage Ridge School announced today that it has named Cory Clemetson as new head coach for boys basketball. It has also hired Kyle Sadanaga as new Athletic Director.

Clemetson brings vast experience coaching youth basketball in Northern Nevada and the Bay area including the highly regarded Nevada Wolverines AAU program which features many of the top youth basketball players in the region and competes at top-tier tournaments throughout the Western US. Clemetson is a former Division I basketball player at University of the Pacific and also played for powerhouse Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, CA.

“I am thrilled to be coaching Sage Ridge basketball at such an exciting time for the school,” Clemetson said. “With our new Student Activity Center, which will feature a premium 13,000-square-foot gymnasium with a top-tier maple hardwood floor and a state-of-the art fitness and weight room, we are excited that our student-athletes will train and compete in one of the highest quality facilities in the region.”

Clemetson added, “Sage Ridge Athletics is on the rise and our basketball program is poised over the next few years to become one of the top programs in the region regardless of division. We have invested in a highly experienced and outstanding coaching staff and are building a highly competitive non-conference schedule outside the area. Our team is young but we have some very talented young student-athletes who strive for excellence in all they do.”

Sadanaga has been part of the Northern Nevada community for the last 20+ years. He graduated from the International Baccalaureate Program at Wooster High School before earning his Mechanical Engineering degree at the University of Nevada, Reno. Most recently, Sadanaga was a math instructor and department coordinator at Truckee Meadows Community College for over a decade.

Sadanaga has coached JV and varsity basketball at Damonte Ranch High School since its opening in 2003. Simultaneously, he was instrumental in the shaping of the Sierra Nevada Basketball organization in 2007 and has been president since 2012. Under Sadanaga’s leadership Sierra Nevada Basketball has risen to be recognized as one of the top youth basketball programs in Northern Nevada, encompassing recreational leagues, tournaments, camps, clinics, and their Warriors travel teams. At Sage Ridge, Sadanaga will serve as Athletic Director, teach middle school and upper school Math classes, and serve as an assistant coach for boys basketball.

“In the last few years, I started to see something special happening at Sage Ridge,” Sadanaga commented. “With all the recent exciting developments at Sage Ridge and its strong reputation and high standards of academic excellence, I am honored to be joining its leadership team, faculty and coaching staff to help grow the school and its programs to new levels.”

Sadanaga added, “I have known Cory for years and have watched him coach and develop young players — teaching sound fundamentals and instilling confidence in his players to get the most out of them. His Wolverines AAU teams have been highly successful and he is considered one of the top coaches in our region. I am excited to be coaching with him.”

For girls basketball, Michael Cvetich will be continuing as head coach. Cvetich has extensive experience coaching multiple sports at different levels. A former athlete at UC Merced, he has experience playing both basketball and baseball at post college levels. He has coached high school basketball and baseball at Sacramento Country Day School and on Nantucket Island.

Joining the high school basketball staff will also be Caleb Lawson. Lawson, who grew up in the Reno/Sparks area, most recently was Bishop Manogue’s freshman girls basketball coach and has also coached with Reno Ballers and the Reno Kings. At Sage Ridge, Lawson will serve as assistant coach for both the boys and girls programs.

Also joining the basketball staff will be Chad Clemetson. Chad Clemetson starred at Menlo School in the Bay Area. He is program director for the Reno Hype, a top 4th and 5th grade AAU program where he also coaches the 4th grade team. At Sage Ridge, Chad Clemetson will serve as an assistant coach for boys basketball.

“We are excited about the future of Sage Ridge Athletics,” said Tobin Bechtel, Sage Ridge’s Head of School. “These staffing additions along with the new Student Activity Center will help us continue to elevate our Athletics programs and profile as we develop a more well-rounded experience that focuses on the whole child.”
