Sage Ridge Varsity Boys Track & Field Earns 1st Place NIAA All-State Academic Team Title; 14 Scorpions All-State Academic Team Honorees
Sage Ridge School

Each athletics season, the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) presents a special award to the team with the highest grade point average (GPA) in each sport’s division. At the Sage Ridge Spring 2025 Sports Banquet, Athletic Director Sierra Starbuck presented the NIAA first-place All-State Academic Team award to the Varsity Boys Track & Field Team.

The team GPA is determined using varsity team members’ unweighted GPAs from the last semester and computing an overall GPA. The NIAA “considers the State Academic Championship award equal to the Athletic Championship award. As the NIAA’s coaches and administrators always stress, the participants are students first, then athletes.”

  • Varsity Boys Track & Field: First place with an unweighted 3.87 overall team GPA.

The NIAA Academic Team State Championship “celebrates teamwork not only in sports competitions but also in the classroom.”

Varsity Girls Track & Field, Varsity Swim and Varsity Boys Golf did not have enough athletes on the teams to be considered for the Academic Team title.

All-State Academic Team Honorees

The NIAA and Jostens also recognized the following Sage Ridge varsity student-athletes by naming them to the All-State Academic Team for earning a 4.0 unweighted GPA from the previous semester:

  • Varsity Track & Field: Viola Charles '28, Beatrice Liwanag '26, Gygy Najjar '28, Lauren Sherven '26, William Adams '28, Aiden Charles '26, Tyler Jensen-Eykamp '26, Rushil Mahadevu '28, Caleb Mulvaney '25, Michael Skaria '25
  • Varsity Swim: Tri Huynh '27, Jensen Wu '27, Zach Power '25
  • Varsity Boys Golf: Wes Kennedy '27

Congratulations, Scorpions!
