Sage Ridge Scorpion Rhys Ferrito ’28 has done it again. In a powerful start to his 2025 triathlon season, Rhys placed 6th overall at the 27th annual Pasadena Triathlon—matching his historic finish from last year, once again outpacing many seasoned collegiate athletes across California.
Held annually in early spring, the Pasadena Triathlon is considered the largest early-season race on the West Coast, drawing hundreds of athletes from top-tier programs. This year’s event welcomed 581 competitors, including participants from UCLA, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly, and UC Davis.
While many races follow the traditional swim-bike-run format, Pasadena has a unique challenge with its reverse triathlon course: run-bike-swim. Rhys demonstrated exceptional versatility and mental focus in navigating this demanding structure—an impressive feat for any athlete, especially a high school freshman.
Finishing 6th overall for the second year in a row, Rhys not only maintained his position among the top 10, but he also proved that last year’s win, when he became the first teenager to ever place in the top 10 in the race’s 26-year history, was no fluke. The two-time U.S. Youth Triathlon Champion will compete in Nationals in early June.
Congratulations, Rhys, on another incredible performance. Your Sage Ridge family is cheering you on every step of the way!
