Triathlon season is underway and Scorpion Rhys Ferrito '28 has recorded another win. On Sunday, April 7, Sage Ridge student Ferrito competed in the 2024 California State Triathlon and left the event as Champion for the "14 and Under" age group for the second year in a row.
Last month, Ferrito kicked off his 2024 triathlon season placing 6th overall in the Pasadena Triathlon (all age groups) in the first top 10 placement for a teenager in the race's 26-year history.
The California State Triathlon was held at Lake Berryessa in Napa Valley.
Ferrito completed the triathlon in 1 hour, 9 minutes and 32 seconds, leading him to not only win the champion title in the "14 and Under" age group but also to earn 9th place in the Adults Overall ranking out of around 250 participants.
Every participant had to battle the chilly below-60-degree waters of the lake in wetsuits, adding a degree of difficulty to the competition. Next up for Ferrito? Rhys will compete in the Folsom International Triathlon in May and the Oregon State Championship in June. We wish him the best in his upcoming events!
