Scorpion Debaters Dutton & Lu Shine at Nationals
John Sloyan

The National Speech and Debate Association’s championship tournament in Louisville, KY, concluded this week, and proudly

representing Sage Ridge School were Maddy Dutton ’23 and Kevin Lu ’23. They joined 5000 students from across the country and competed in a field of over 200 Public Forum teams. In their preliminary rounds, they finished with six winning ballots – just one win shy of the seven needed to advance to the final round of thirty. With this strong performance, the two ended up as the top Public Forum team in Nevada and among the top 15% of all PF teams in the nation. Amazing! This event brings to a close Maddy & Kevin's excellent '21-'22 season, and makes them the Northern Nevada team to beat in the '22-'23 school year. Great work!

Special thanks go to Ann Dutton, Maddy's mom, who led the team as chaperone and judge. This achievement would not have been possible without her. Thank you Ann!
