Senior Spotlight: Adeline Guinasso
Dr. Tara McGann

Adeline Guinasso knew that she wanted to become a part of the Sage Ridge School community when she shadowed an 8th grade student and saw how excited the students in Mrs. Kuehn’s English class were to discuss To Kill a Mockingbird.

Class discussions are probably what Adeline has treasured the most. Adeline has always loved reading and writing, but taking English with Mrs. Kuehn, Mr. Sloyan, and Dr. McGann has given her a deep understanding of how to write and think with clarity and precision. She also feels that she is leaving Sage Ridge with a great foundational knowledge of literature. Studying history with Dr. Sullivan sparked her interest in history by showing her fascinating patterns in world history and making her consider how historical movements impacted each other.  Adeline now wants to major in history and maybe even get a PhD in the subject, commenting, “I never thought history would be something I would do with my life.” She has been able to explore her interest in history further through her internship with a history professor at University of Nevada, Reno, who specialized in public history, learning not only about local Reno history but also what it means to be an historian.

Sage Ridge School has exposed Adeline to a wide variety of academic subjects and has provided many new experiences. It has also encouraged her to challenge herself, and she is grateful to her math teachers for teaching her how to work hard at something, even when she finds the subject difficult. Sage Session classes gave her opportunities to learn about new topics, such as the Civil Rights movement, the detective genre in literature, and film studies. “Now whenever I watch a movie I think about what we learned in Film Studies about shots, angles, and camera movements. I loved the Civil Rights class because I learned about a section of history that can get glossed over.” During her time at Sage Ridge School, she got to play on our volleyball and soccer teams and try out everything from ski racing, debate, mock trial and theater.

Dr. McGann notes, “Adeline is curious and relishes learning, and she will pursue her studies with passion.” Adeline is excited to start college, and we are excited to hear all about her new experiences.
