Mason Togliatti

Mason Togliatti joined Sage Ridge in 9th grade and right away noticed how the teachers at SRS have a lot more opportunity to help their students. Mason was also struck by how at Sage Ridge, it was cool to get good grades, which was a change from his previous school. As he looks forward to graduation, he appreciates how Sage Ridge helped to push him in the right direction.

In his freshman year, Mr. Sloyan asked Mason if he’d like to try Speech and Debate. Mr Sloyan was eager to weigh in on Mason’s debating accomplishments: “Mason "Toegz" Togliatti, by his nature, is a man of few words, and so rather than attempt to win rounds with forceful rhetoric, he found that he could rely on research, logic, and preparation to control the flow of the debate. As his experience grew, so did his victories, and his reputation in the Northern Nevada debate league took off when he finished with a bronze medal at a major spring tournament.”

Mason’s senior thesis topic combines his interest in comedy with ideas that he has encountered in Senior Seminar with Mr. Eads. In Senior Seminar, seniors have been reading about the perils that democracy faces in different parts of the world. For his senior thesis, Mason is researching political correctness in comedy and its relationship to democracy.

Mason would like younger Scorpions to know about the benefits of time management skills. “When I first started at Sage Ridge, it was really hard,” Mason reports. “I had to spend a lot of time doing homework. Eventually, I got better at time management.” Mason works a part-time job outside of school, so time management has become really important to his success. “It gets easier,” he says. His advisor, Mr. Brown, notes that Mason has developed a confidence that has become “a guiding compass for how he manages the ups and downs of life.” Mason is thinking about studying business in college, and the Sage Ridge community is excited to see him thrive in the next stage of his educational career.
