As we head off for winter break and enter the height of the holiday season, we have so much to celebrate. Matilda had a stunning run on our stage, once again showcasing the stellar talents of our students at a level I have rarely experienced at other schools. Last weekend our varsity basketball teams went to our pre-season tournament in Mammoth with our boys bringing home the first place trophy. A new edition of The Ridge is out - our student produced magazine. And our lower and middle schools had showcases presenting their work with pride and enthusiasm. We are a vibrant community with supportive parents, faculty and administration.

We are also heading to the close of the second decade of the 21st century.  With my eldest daughter turning 20, it reminds me that all our children at Sage Ridge were born in this century! As the world has become more interconnected than ever, it is also becoming more divided and divisive. There are many challenges ahead and I believe that the environment and opportunities we are able to provide at our school are building the dispositions and skills to meet both the problems the 20th century left behind and the new issues that arise in this century.

With all this in mind, I wanted to offer a toast to our faculty and staff for all they do in making Sage Ridge a school that is truly helping our children become the best versions of themselves. So this past Wednesday after the exams and in the early evening light in the Loft, we raised a glass (some whisky and some water). A toast in Scotland is meant as a pause to fill the senses, to recognise what is good in our lives, and to welcome the future. It is a brief celebration to value the people we work with as we make a difference. And I want to extend this toast to our wider community - we all can add to the education of our youth. So slàinte mhath - to your health - each and every one of you.
