College Admissions News and Early Action/Decision Notifications

Over 90% of the members of the Class of 2021 have applied to college early action (EA) and/or early decision (ED) this year and listed below are some of their admission results, which will continue to trickle in this month and early next year. For more information about EA/ED application plans please see The College Board's related webpage here. Many colleges have implemented test-optional or test-blind policies for applicants in response to restricted ACT/SAT testing opportunities due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and in many cases these policies have already been extended into future admission cycles. Regarding their test-optional approach, Duke's dean of undergraduate admission shared the following: "We have had extensive discussions in our office about evaluating each applicant fully and holistically regardless of whether they submit test scores, and my staff continues to be dedicated to understanding each applicant as an individual in the unique context of their school and their life. Approximately 60 percent of our Early Decision applicants have submitted SAT or ACT scores as part of their application, and about 40 percent have not." In addition, many elite institutions including Duke have reported large increases in the total numbers of EA/ED applications this year (around 20% or more), while noting this trend across the economic, demographic, and geographic spectrum.

Congratulations to our seniors on their success in the college admission process thus far! We wish them all the best and look forward to more great results in the coming weeks and months!

PSAT 8/9 and PSAT/NMSQT Score Reports

Students in grades 8-11 can visit studentscores.collegeboard.org to access their PSAT scores online and to learn more about what they mean. (First-time users will need to create an account to do so.) Students' test booklets are available to pick up in the front office of Webster at SRS as well. Here are the College Board's PSAT 8/9 Understanding Scores Brochure and PSAT/NMSQT Understanding Scores Brochure, as well as a link to The Compass Guide to College Admission Testing, a comprehensive resource with PSAT/SAT/ACT test prep and related information.

If you have any questions about your PSAT scores, test prep, or the college admission landscape, please email Rob Lamb, Director of College Counseling, at rlamb@sageridge.org.
