Congratulations to our State Academic Champions! The Sage Ridge Varsity Soccer teams are the NIAA State Academic Champions in the 1A/2A Division with a GPA of 3.78 for the girls and a GPA of 3.51 for the boys. Varsity Volleyball is also ranked in third place with a GPA of 3.69 in the 1A Division. We are so proud of our Scorpions–not only for their impressive athleticism but also for their focus on their academic goals.
The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association, the 501c3 non-profit governing body of high
school sports in the Silver State, is proud to present a special award each year to the team with the
highest grade point average in each sport per classification.
The NIAA also recognizes those varsity student-athletes who achieved a 4.0 GPA the previous
semester by naming them to the All-State Academic Team.
The team grade point average is determined by taking the individual GPA’s of varsity team
members from last semester and then computing an overall average.
The NIAA and Jostens, the NIAA’s awards partner, consider this state academic championship
award to be equal to the athletic championship award. As the NIAA, coaches and administrators
should always stress, the participants are students first, then athletes.
