Working Together

Working Together
Tobin Bechtel

I have heard almost ad nauseam in the last few months that “we’re all in this together.” But being in something together is not the same as working together. I believe one key reason for our success with Scorpion School has been that we have all been able to work together. Our faculty has collaborated closely to adjust and creatively carry on with our curriculum. Our teachers and students have worked together in new ways to continue learning at a high level. Our families have worked with us to support not only school work but also a school community.

Paul Graham observed that, “Nothing is more powerful than a community of talented people working on related problems.” Currently, our team is delving into what education and school will look like this Fall. And we will be not only open this Fall, we will be thriving.

We are envisioning different scenarios so we can gauge what changes we need to undertake to provide a safe experience while ensuring our programs remain challenging and engaging. And in the spirit of working together, if you have expertise, ideas or connections that would help us with the related problems of re-opening, please contact me.

We are working with other schools around the world to compare approaches and share experiences. I was proud to represent our school a few weeks ago in a national forum for schools grappling to go online. In turn, we are working together to envision new approaches and opportunities that will take learning in new and exciting directions while holding true to our values and principles.
