Athletics Update January 24th, 2020

Greetings Scorpions Sports Fans!

WD>WS.  No, this is not a typo or an algorithm.  This is the definition of leading by example: Well Done is greater than Well Said. Words motivate you, actions inspire you.  Sometimes we need a good quote to effectively deliver a message, or to begin/end a speech or essay.  But always remember, as a leader, as a coach, as a teammate, you speak most powerfully through your actions.  Well Said is important, but Well Done is always better.  Be the example in all you do.  On the court, in the pool, on the track, on the trail, on the field, on the bike, where you stand...Speak.  People will listen, because you will earn their trust by what you communicate through your actions.

We are so proud of our MS Girls Volleyball teams for their tireless efforts against Excel and Incline MS this week!  Incline MS traveled down the hill to take us on at HOME this past Wednesday.  Our 7th grade team played 2 tough games against the Lady Mountain Lions, taking the 2nd game to 27-25.  In the end, Incline kept their winning streak alive.  The 8th grade game was reminiscent of a High School game!  Both teams played strategically and technically.  The Lady Mountain Lions focused on their serving game in both sets, which led to an Incline win in 2.  With 3 weeks left in the season, both teams are inspired to finish strong and to earn that spot in the TAH-NEVA Tournament!

Congratulations to our Boys and our Girls Basketball Teams for their back to back victories over Excel Christian this past Saturday at our HOME court at Neil Road Rec!  Spencer Uppal led the boys teams with 23 total points followed by Julian Vlad with 11.  Sammy Kenyherz and Siena Hall each had 8 points in the 20-17 Lady Scorpion victory over the Warriors!  Saturday was even more special with the debut of our very own Scorpions Sting Squad!  These girls kept the energy level in the red and the volume to 11!!

The reality of competitive sports is simple...there will be a winner, and there will be a loser.  Our Varsity Boys Basketball team has enjoyed great success this year at tournaments and at the beginning of the regular season.  They experienced their first League loss this past Tuesday at Virginia City.  Losing is hard.  It is also part of the deal athletes make when they choose to compete.  What is important is how you respond to a loss.  Study it, learn from it, then move on from it.  It is never a bad thing to be reminded that we have work to do and we must continue to develop in order to find success.

Have a great weekend, Scorpion Nation!
