Sage Ridge School is proud to announce that Senior Elizabeth “Libby” Mulvaney signed her National Letter of Intent committing to the University of Chicago’s Division III Track and Field team on Wednesday, April 19, 2023.
During the 2022 Track and Field season, Elizabeth competed at Regionals where she broke the school record for the high jump, clearing a height of 5 feet 6 inches. This height earned her 1st place and a spot in the State Championship. She also qualified in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.86, a personal best. Elizabeth is currently listed as #1 in the 1A Division and #5 in the State of Nevada for the 2023 season for the high jump.
In late February 2023, Elizabeth also advanced to become a 2023 National Merit Scholarship Finalist, with winners announced in May 2023. More than one-third (about 16,000) of the approximately 50,000 high scorers on the PSAT/NMSQT move on to become semifinalists and 15,000 become finalists.
“I am so excited to go to the University of Chicago and compete on their track and field team. I can’t wait to be a part of a team where I have a specialized coach and am able to work with a bunch of people that are specialized in what they’re doing. I hope I beat my personal record there,” says Elizabeth. “Thank you to my family. They are the ones that encouraged me to do the high jump and keep training. I’m thankful to Sage Ridge School for the experiences I had and the education I received that allowed me to get into my number one choice.”
Sage Ridge School’s track and field coach, Camden Mauer, says of Elizabeth, “The first conversation we ever had was about ballet, and if you’ve ever seen Libby compete in the high jump, she has the grace of a ballerina. She always brings fun to the team and is dedicated to the sport. She will always have people cheering for her here at Sage Ridge and beyond. I can’t wait to see all she achieves at the University of Chicago.”
“Libby Mulvaney has exemplified Sage Ridge School’s mission throughout her time here. Her commitment to academics, being named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, the arts through theater, and athletics with basketball, and breaking school records in track and field, is exactly what we want to see our students do here,” says Head of School, Dr. Ginger Hovenic. “Her focus and willingness to try new things and find what she’s truly passionate about is what we hope for all students. I look forward to hearing more about her achievements in the classroom, on the stage, and at track and field competitions during her time at the University of Chicago.”
Sage Ridge School is very proud of Elizabeth and looks forward to following her ongoing achievements both on and off the track and field at the University of Chicago.
