Families choose Sage Ridge because they want their children to grow into confident, capable young adults who can thrive in college and beyond. Few stories show this more clearly than the journey of Madeline Dutton, Class of 2023. Now entering her senior year at Pepperdine University, Madeline is studying Integrated Marketing Communications and building a path shaped by curiosity, global experience, and a strong academic foundation.

Madeline was drawn to IMC because she loves bringing people together and telling authentic brand stories. She thrives in fast‑paced, creative environments and has found a major that lets her collaborate with innovative teams. This summer, she is interning with the fashion brand E.L.F. Cosmetics, supporting experiential events and gaining real‑world marketing experience that aligns with her long‑term goals.

One of the most meaningful parts of Madeline’s college journey was spending a full academic year studying abroad in Florence, Italy. She traveled to more than fifteen countries, learning to appreciate the nuances of different cultures, seeing firsthand how connected the world can be, and gaining a truly global perspective. That experience strengthened her interest in communication and broadened her understanding of how people and ideas move across borders.

Madeline credits Sage Ridge School with giving her the skills, habits and confidence required to succeed at college. She shared five lessons that continue to guide her:

  • Building strong relationships with professors and peers
  • Going the extra mile in academics, career, and personal growth
  • Embracing discomfort and seeking new challenges
  • Staying grounded in values, especially the SRS pillars
  • Appreciating where she comes from and the teachers who shaped her

She speaks with gratitude about the faculty who influenced her path. Señor Garzon helped her communicate in Spanish across Europe. Mr. Sloyan strengthened her research and writing skills. Dr. McGann deepened her love of literature, which now helps her navigate complex market reports and Mr. Lamb supported her transition into higher education. She says she would not be where she is today without their guidance.

After graduation, Madeline hopes to stay in Southern California and work in brand partnerships within the ath-leisure or extreme sports industries. Long-term, she plans to build her own business in the fitness and wellness industry. Her goals reflect the same drive and curiosity she showed at Sage Ridge, where she was also part of the girls' soccer team that broke the school scoring record and finished second at state.

Madeline’s journey shows what happens when students are challenged, supported, and encouraged to explore the world around them. She left Sage Ridge with strong academic skills, meaningful relationships, and the confidence to take on new opportunities. Her story is one of many that show why Sage Ridge students are ready for the world.
