Remembering Steven 'Tren' Nolan

Our community honors the life and legacy of Steven 'Tren' Nolan, whose passing has deeply touched Sage Ridge. Tren was a devoted educator, a lifelong learner, and a person defined by kindness, humility, and quiet strength. 

Tren’s path to Sage Ridge reflected his commitment to service and education. He spent many years teaching mathematics and supporting students in ways that extended far beyond the classroom. Colleagues remember his calm, thoughtful approach to problem‑solving, his willingness to help wherever needed, and the gentle humor he brought to conversations. Students recall a teacher who believed in them, encouraged them, and made learning feel both challenging and achievable.

He enriched our school not only through his teaching, but through the relationships he built. Tren listened deeply, supported generously, and treated every student with dignity and respect. His impact will continue to shape our community for years to come.

• "Tren and I served together on a senior thesis committee. Tren showed genuine interest in our senior advisee’s topic, frequently expressing gratitude for the opportunity to learn new things from the student. It was a quietly powerful way to honor the student’s ongoing hard work. I will remember the way he encouraged this student with such humility and grace." - Sara Gaunt, Middle School English

Student Reflections:

• Mr. Nolan was an amazing teacher, and his passion for math was tremendous. He was a great teacher and adequately prepared all of his classes for exams. He was a great person outside the classroom too; he brightened up the hallways and always wore a smile that lightened everybody's mood. He was very keen to help students out with problems and explained them very well. He was also very integral to the community and went out of his way to make the classroom a place where kids would want to learn, like putting on March Madness and Music. He was truly an amazing teacher, community member, and an amazing human. He will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace, Mr. Nolan. - Krisha, Grade 11

 

• I walked into class one day, and he was playing a cheer competition on the screen. His daughter was one of the announcers, and you could feel the pride and love radiating from Mr. Nolan. He was such a deeply caring person who will be greatly missed by the student body. - Grade 12 student

 

• I will always remember talking to him right after my AP exam. Seeing how proud he looked in that moment meant everything. He was a great teacher who always showed up for all of us and made sure every student felt supported. - Rushil, Grade 11

 

• Mr Nolan always loved game night, so much so that he made a sage session about game night. He brought snacks, taught us a bunch of new games, and held class tournaments. You could really tell he cared not only about the games but the family aspect as well, as he encouraged us to have our own family game night. He will be remembered not only for his great teaching, but his genuine care and kindness towards his students. - Grade 11 student

 

• Mr Nolan was an incredible teacher and person. I had a blast talking with Mr. Nolan about whatever sports event had happened the night before, anything from a terrible Jets vs. Browns game to March Madness to our latest fantasy football results. Mr. Nolan always cared deeply about us and our classwork, and I will never forget any of it. Thank you, Mr. Nolan! - Bradley, Grade 12
