The Scorpion

The Scorpion robotics team continues to impress, with Sloan Yarden-Beaulac '31, Tyler Lant '31, Hong Rui ("Harry") Zhao '30, Srihan Arekapudi '31, earning remarkable success at its second-ever competition-this time in the heart of Silicon Valley. Even as newcomers to the VEX IQ circuit, Sage Ridge students once again demonstrated incredible talent, teamwork, and determination.

At the tournament, the team proudly took home their second VEX IQ Excellence Award, the highest honor presented at this rookie-level competition. This prestigious award not only celebrates their outstanding performance but also secures them a coveted spot at this year’s State Championship. Achieving this milestone after only two competitions is truly extraordinary.

“What makes this accomplishment even more meaningful is the growing excitement within our community,” said Dr. Ginger Hovenic, head of school. “Parents are proud, students are inspired, and our school is beginning to gain well-deserved recognition as a rising leader in robotics and technology while beautifully complementing our strong programs in the humanities and the arts.”

Dr. Hovenic expressed a special thank you to Mr. deLeon, whose leadership, guidance, and countless hours of preparation have helped shape the team’s success.

“We extend our gratitude to him for fostering a supportive, innovative environment where students can explore, problem-solve, and excel,” she said. “We couldn’t be more proud of our robotics team, and we can’t wait to see what they accomplish next. Onward to the State Championship!”
