Six Scorpions Named Presidential Scholar Candidates — Representing 5% of Nevada’s Statewide Pool

Sage Ridge School accounts for 5% of Nevada’s Presidential Scholar candidates while enrolling only about 1% of the state’s high school seniors, placing the school among the most academically competitive in Nevada.

This year, six members of the Class of 2026 have been named candidates for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, one of the nation’s highest academic honors for graduating high school students.

• Bryce Stormo (‘26)
• Andrew Zhang (‘26)

With 6 of the 118 total candidates from Nevada, Sage Ridge is 2nd in state after Davidson, which exclusively admits students scoring in the 99.9th percentile on IQ testing under its legislative designation. In Reno-Tahoe, no other high school produced three or more candidates.

Further, Sage Ridge is celebrating five National Merit Scholarship Finalists, four of whom are also included in the six Presidential Scholarship candidacy: Aiden Charles, Saatvik Gaur, Emma Sapp, and Andrew Zhang. These distinctions place Sage Ridge students among the most academically accomplished high school seniors in the nation.

“Nevada typically produces just two Presidential Scholars each year, making Sage Ridge’s six candidates an extraordinary showing,” says Head of School, Dr. Ginger Hovenic. “These outcomes reflect the cumulative impact of small classes, rigorous AP programming, individualized college counseling, and a culture that prepares students to compete successfully at the national level.”
