Student Athletes and Teams Shine at Sage Ridge this Winter Season
Sage Ridge School

From the slopes to the hardwood, our student-athletes delivered incredible effort, remarkable improvement, and outstanding academic achievement throughout this winter season. Add to that, a wildly successful chili cook-off fundraiser, and the Winter 2025-2026 season is one for the books.

Academic State Team Championships

This winter, four Sage Ridge teams earned recognition for the NIAA Academic State Team Championships.

The Boys Basketball team finished 3rd in the 1A Division with a team GPA of 3.72, while the Girls Basketball team earned 4th place in the 1A Division with a team GPA of 3.76.

On the mountain, both ski programs earned 2nd place in the 5A Division. The Boys Skiing team carried a 3.69 GPA, and the Girls Skiing team led all four programs with a remarkable 3.85 GPA, a result that speaks to the character and commitment of every athlete on the roster.

Varsity Skiing

Varsity Ski Race 2026

This season's ski program was one of the largest rosters we have seen in several years at Sage Ridge, and the results reflected it. With 19 athletes on our varsity ski team this year, every athlete improved throughout the season, made impressive strides in training and competition, and raced well each week. Three athletes, Giuliana Hovenic (‘29), Aiden Charles (‘26), and Ryan Sherven (‘28) even earned invitations to the Western US High School Skiing Championships, a tremendous honor and a fitting tribute to a breakout season.

State Results

Giuliana Hovenic (‘29) led the girls team with an 18th place finish in the Giant Slalom, and a 19th place finish in the Slalom race.

The boys delivered some of the program's strongest results. In the Giant Slalom, Aiden Charles (‘26) placed 9th and Ryan Sherven (‘28) placed 11th, both top ten and top twelve finishes on a statewide stage.

Varsity Basketball

The boys basketball team showed tremendous heart this season, they showed up every single game with effort and determination. They continued to grow as players and teammates throughout the season, and their 3rd-place Academic State Championship finish is a remarkable reflection of who they are as student-athletes.

The girls basketball team had a strong campaign on the court, finishing 5th in the 1A West Region. It was a competitive season full of growth, hustle, and memorable moments. Their 4th place Academic State Championship finish, paired with a team GPA of 3.76, shows the dedication these student-athletes have on and off the court.

2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off

2026 Chili Cook-off Winners

The Sage Ridge community showed up in a big way for this year's 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off. Thanks to the entire community’s generosity and enthusiasm, we surpassed our fundraising goal and raised just over $4,500 for the athletics department. These funds will go directly toward purchasing new sports balls and equipment for all of our athletic programs!

Competition was fierce this year, and every chili cooker brought in some great chili. After plenty of tasting, we were thrilled to announce this year's Golden and Silver Ladle winners.

2026 Golden Ladle

  • Kennedy Family: "The Kennedy's Favorite"

2026 Silver Ladle

  • Ramont Family: "Dinosaur Chili"

Congratulations to both winning families, and thank you to all community members that attended, supported, donated, volunteered, or cooked chili to make this evening so memorable! We already can't wait to see who takes home the Golden and Silver Ladles next year!

Thank You to Our Community

Athletics at Sage Ridge is only possible because of the incredible support of our families, coaches, parents, community members, and fans. Thank you for cheering on these athletes week in and week out, for showing up at our events, and for believing in the value of athletics for our students.

Here's to a successful spring season ahead. Go Scorpions!
