Visual Arts
The Sage Ridge School Visual Arts Program encourages college-bound students to explore multiple areas of artistic expression. Visual art classes include 3-dimensional study – ceramics, both functional and sculptural – and 2-dimensional study, including drawing, painting, printmaking, and mixed media. Within these classes, students explore technical concerns of artmaking, aesthetic concepts, and historical-cultural connections. Visual arts classes facilitate the growth of a broad range of important skills, including critical thinking, problem solving, communication, collaboration, creativity, and innovation.
Beyond the classroom are many opportunities for students to engage in extracurricular visual arts activities. Student artworks are exhibited on campus at various locations including an upper school atrium gallery and lower/middle school gallery space in the main offices. Middle School student artworks are also exhibited regularly in the greater community at the South Valleys Library in South Reno.
Sage Ridge students annually participate in the Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards. Numerous students have received Gold and Silver Key recognition through this prestigious competition. Professional artists share their expertise and work with students in workshop venues on campus during the school year. Our Sage Session program offers students a concentrated involvement in an arts experience. Topics explored in these two-week sessions have included, Arts in Culture, Art in Public Spaces, Recycled Art, Text in Art, Book Arts, The Romantic and Classical in Art, and Clay Sculpture Concerns.
