Carson High Tournament
Greetings Debate Fans!
A small but feisty group of six debaters represented SRS admirably at the Carson High Tournament today. We performed very well as a group and had impressive efforts and results. The deets:
Chase “Hat Man” Warner ’19 teamed up with classmate Jeff Li ’19 in Senior Congressional debate. While neither boarded (made it to finals), they both gave impressive speeches and made a strong impact in the event. While rumor has it that Jeff may return to Public Forum debate, Chase is quickly assembling the skills and experience to be a force in Congress next month.
Cade “The Rock” Rombardo ’20 posted a strong 3-1 finish in Lincoln Douglas Debate and missed finals by the smallest of margins. I was able to watch Cade in action during one of his winning rounds, and his improvement in just one year is remarkable. He will head into the January tournament with a lot of confidence. Wow!
Nhi Phan ’21 posted her second 2-2 record in LD – no small achievement for a Freshman and a real indication of her increasing knowledge and skills. Nhi is quickly making a name for herself among the Sagebrush District judges as she improves each month and will look for her strongest performance yet at McQueen. Great job!
Finally, the first ever SRS sibling debate team of Caleb “The Kid” Briggs ’21 and Jared “The Lad” Briggs ’21pulled off an impressive 2-2 record in Public Forum debate. This is remarkable as it was Caleb’s first ever debate and only the second one for Jared, and their opponents were far more experienced. Jared observed at the end of the day that he “finally figured out how to do this in my final round.” Well done!
Next Up: McQueen High School Tournament, January 26 & 27.
Yours in the Cause!
